Author Profile: Dr. Fredrick Mwazighe

Fredrick Mwazighe holds a Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry from Technische Universität Chemnitz, in Germany. He has lectured and done research for over a decade at the University of Nairobi, and has published scientific articles in his area of specialization in a number of international journals.

He was born in Mombasa, the last born in a family of 8, and raised in Voi where he went to nursery and primary school. He fondly remembers the long school holidays, weekend movies, and monthly open-air movies in Voi. He later went to Kenyatta High School, in Mwatate, Taita Taveta County. For his post-secondary education, he went to the University of Nairobi where he attained a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry and Master of Science in Environmental Chemistry.

Fredrick spent his teenage years in a small village called Mariwenyi near Voi town. This village had no electricity or piped water and experienced little rain through the years. These hopeless conditions led many of his contemporaries, and himself for a short while, to debauchery. He watched many promising young lives end in desperation, mediocrity, and even suicide. It was in this backdrop that he fell in love with books and God’s Word. The quiet village life also afforded him time for introspection and dreaming. It was also in this village that God pursued and found him.

He is the founder of Mariwenyi Youth Mentorship programme, which is meant to inspire young people to godliness and excellence. The initiative mentors and supports bright and needy students through high school. He is also passionate about teaching young people soft skills that prepare them for the workplace.

He is married to Anastasia, with whom he shares a heart for young people.
